What is professional tooth cleaning?

No matter how well we clean our teeth there will always be areas where we cannot reach the plaque that has built up. This plaque is full of bacteria which can cause caries and inflammation. The dental hygenist is able to clean your teeth effectively and remove the damaging plaque. Stains from coffee, tea and cigarettes are removed and the teeth look clean and healthy. 

How is it done?

Professional tooth cleaning is carried out by our skilled dental hygenists and takes approximately 60 minutes. Before cleaning the teeth are thoroughly examined, then using a special instrument surface plaque is removed as well as the plaque between the teeth and in the gum area. In our practice we use modern ultrasound instruments which clean gently but thoroughly. Following this soft plaque is removed using hand instruments, interdental brushes and floss. The teeth are then polished so that bacteria can't easily become reestablished.   Finally the teeth are coated with a special protective fluoride.
